| Mission: |
INDU was formed with the basic intention of providing enough
blood for transfusion needs to patients in emergency all across
the state of Gujarat.
The Mission statement reads : NO ONE SHOULD DIE BECAUSE OF BLOOD.
After years of active survey by professional bodies, INDU has eventually
found solutions to the acute shortage of Blood in Gujarat. In keeping
with the mission statement and the solutions found, INDU has following
aims and objective : |
| |
1) Networking of Blood Banks.
2) Thalassemia center for FREE Blood Transfusion.

| Networking Of Blood Banks: |
Current stauts of Blood Banks:
Blood banks in the state of Gujarat can be broadly classified into
two categories, viz. those in the Government sector and those in
the Non-government Sector. The latter group, comprising of nearly
70 blood banks is either managed by the International Red Cross
Society affiliates or by Public Charitable Trusts.
All these blood banks are licensed under the Food and Drugs Authority
of the Central government of India and follow stringent guidelines
set by FDA with regard to blood banking infrastructure and testing
facilities. These rules for safe blood are applicable equally
to both categories of Blood Banks. |
| |
Current System of Blood Banking:
Myths:
1) Doubts about safety and quality of blood (in regard to HIV and
HbdAg) received from Non Government Blood Banks.
2) Non Government Blood Banks tap professional blood donors.
3) Non Government Blood Banks sell Blood. |
| |
The Facts:
1) All Blood Banks follow strict testing norms and Blood is safe.
2) All Blood Banks give blood units in exchange only.
3) Blood Banks do not tap professional donors but generate blood
from Voluntary donation camps. |
|
|
| Genuine Problems Faced By Patients Includes: |
1) An estimated shortfall of 70% in demand and supply, the burden
of which is directly faced by the patients.
2) The shortfall makes it mandatory for donation of blood units
in exchange for the supply by individual blood banks.
3) No arrangement to ensure inter bank transfer of blood in case
of emergency demand in another town/city.
Changes in the delivery system to the end users (the patients)
has a lot to be desired for…… |
| |
| The Solution: NETWORKING |
At INDU HEALTH RESEARCH FOUNDATION, we have networked key blood
banks in the entire state of Gujarat. All networked blood banks
will provide the following benefits to the patients:
1) A patient having donated Blood in a Networked Blood Bank (NBB)
in any city of Gujarat can pick up blood in any of the other NBBs
in any other city of the state and Bombay.
2) Standardization in quality control measures in all NBBs.
TOTAL NUMBER OF BLOOD BANKS NETWORKED: 28 |
