The entire procedure, from completing a short medical history to drawing the blood and resting afterward with refreshments, takes less than 10 mintus. Blood donation is safe and painless, and healthy people can donate every 12 weeks (3 months). Indu Blood Bank encourages donors to give every 12 weeks to help maintain a consistent blood supply and so that the community is prepared for any emergency.

Donor Requirements:
To donate blood, you must be in good health, 18 years of age or older and weight a minimum of 48 Kgs and other criteria is HB should be equal or more than 12.5 gms.

Donation Process:
After prospective donors register to donate, they will receive educational information on the donation process and certain risk behaviors. Donors will then be asked to complete a medical history, be updated on AIDS and high-risk behaviors and asked to sign an informed consent form allowing INDU to collect and test a pint of blood. A donor services staff member will review the donor's health history with the donor and then will perform a mini-physical which includes blood pressure, pulse, temperature, and iron level.

>> Registration >> Fill up Donor Form >> Physical Check-up >> Blood Donation >> Refreshment >> Donor Kit >> FEELING OF SATISFACTION >> Certificate Awarded.
The Actual Donation:
After the screening process, donors are escorted to the donor room area. The donor is seated in a comfortable, reclining chair where a staff member finds the best vein for donation. The skin covering the inner part of the elbow joint is then cleansed and a sterile, disposable needle, connected to plastic tubing and a blood bag, is used for collection. The donor is asked to repeatedly squeeze his or her hand to help blood flow from the vein into the blood bag. A brief rest period and refreshments follow, and from there the donor is able to go back to normal activity with minor restrictions (we ask that donors refrain from heavy lifting and intense exercise for the next 24 hours, no smoking for 20 minutes, and to please drink extra fluids). After the blood is collected, it is sent to the laboratory for testing and component preparation.

Donation Process:
Giving blood is one of the best gifts you can give to another human being. But, you may not know that it's good for you too. Not only will you feel good knowing you've positively affected up to three lives, but donating blood has many physical benefits as well. Here are just a few:

Each donor receives a mini health check that provides a great way to monitor good health. Each mini health check includes: blood pressure check, cholesterol screening, temperature and pulse readings and iron level testing.

Donating blood is good for the heart. Recent studies have shown that men who gave blood three times a year reduced their risk of a heart attack by more than 50 percent.

Recent studies have also shown that donating blood can reduce the chance of certain types of cancer in men.

Donating blood can only help your diet...it takes off one pound.
